Second homecoming in Montrose, Colorado.

Second homecoming in Montrose, Colorado.

A few weeks later, after I was released from 5th Group and had returned to 1st Group in Washington state, I was allowed to take two weeks' leave. So I flew back to Bangor to collect Steven, then on to Montrose, Colorado, to see my parents. That's my mother grinning in the middle and my father with the beard.

As in Bangor, many of the citizens of Montrose turned out to greet me, including veterans' groups, a local radio station, war moms, and an entire grade school class. Later, I was interviewed on the radio. More memories I cannot part with.

You know, when people aren't being nasty to each other, they really can be wonderfully nice.
