Haining Heating & Refrigeration

Haining Heating & Refrigeration is a long-time leader in heating and cooling sales and service in the Grand Valley. Haining is a diverse company; it sells, installs, and services its heating and cooling products. Haining even has a sheet metal shop where they make their own sheet metal for ductwork. “We pride ourselves on the quality of our products and service,” says Haining Vice President Jim Hopkins. “We are very service oriented; we don’t just sell products, we ensure they have a long life.”

Hopkins, Haining President Ken Haining, and the rest of the staff at Haining Heating & Refrigeration are excited and proud to be the first distributor and installer in the Grand Valley of WaterFurnace geothermal heating and cooling systems. WaterFurnace utilizes energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, geothermal technology for low-cost heating, cooling, and hot water.

Geothermal systems offer lower energy costs than gas, oil, or electricity because they transfer heat from the ground rather than create heat. A geothermal system produces three to four times more energy than it consumes, while most other heating and cooling systems produce only one unit of heating or cooling for every unit of energy consumed. According to Hopkins, this can translate into a savings of at least one hundred dollars per month in energy costs to the consumer.

Geothermal technology uses a major source of easily accessible energy: your own backyard. No matter how hot or cold it gets outdoors, the underground temperature stays relatively constant all year, averaging about fifty degrees Fahrenheit. Geothermal systems harness this renewable energy source and use it for heating, cooling, and hot water.

A geothermal system consists of a buried piping system called an earth loop. The system can be a pond loop, a horizontal closed loop, or a vertical closed loop. The underground pipes circulate a water-based solution. When heating, the solution absorbs heat from the earth, carries it to the geothermal unit, compresses the extracted heat to the appropriate temperature, and delivers it into the home. When cooling, the process is reversed and the resulting cool air is delivered to the home.

The geothermal unit provides heat, air conditioning, and hot water all from one compact unit inside the home. There is no need for noisy, unsightly condensing equipment or swamp coolers on the house exterior.

Although initially more expensive to install than traditional heating systems, the savings in energy costs of a geothermal system soon make up the difference in installation costs.

“We are proud and excited to offer this technology to the Grand Valley,” says Hopkins. “It is safe and clean and extremely energy efficient. The monthly operating costs are much lower than gas, oil, or electricity. Geothermal technology is also much better for the environment than extractive forms of energy. For these and other reasons, we are excited about our partnership with WaterFurnace, the leaders in geothermal technology.”

Geothermal systems can be installed in new or existing construction, in homes or commercial buildings. Haining Heating & Refrigeration will service as well as install WaterFurnace geothermal systems.
