Spring in the desert is short, vibrant and colorful! I took all of the cacti photos, save one, and several of the other desert wildflower photos all on one day — May 21st, 2004 — only about two miles from our house and a week or so after we had some good rains and some cooler than usual weather, making the wildflower season longer and more abundant than usual. The others were taken on different dates locally, or at Yellowstone. I don't really know what species any of them are, although the cacti are all prickly pear varieties.
